How ‘contributing to the society’ is Good for Your Health?

. Last week I was collecting money, for the British Red Cross, in Sheffield city center. It has always been a nice experience and the main thing is that it FEELS nice! Your Happiness – When you donate to or volunteer for a charity think about the disabled, flood victims, earthquake survivors, education for deprived kids… people who would benefit from the money/material you gave or collected. Do you know the feelings/emotions you experience when you contribute are therapeutic and can strengthen your immune system? In today’s life when we experience more negative emotions than positive, how good it is to feel fulfilled and to say ‘I am able to help’  raises your self-esteem 🙂 … People these days have £20 to spend on food on a weekend but don’t donate £2 which can buy a dinner for 10 people in the third world. If someone could spend £5 on…

Healthy ways to manage stress for your greater emotional and physical health

There are many healthy ways to manage stress for your greater emotional and physical health, but they all require change. You can either change the situation or change your reaction. When deciding which option to choose, it’s helpful to think of the four A’s: Avoid, Alter, Adapt, or Accept. Focus on what makes you feel calm and in control. “Self-respect is the fruit of discipline.” -A. J. Each time you feel stressed, keep track of it.  This will help you identify the regular stressors in your life and the way you deal with them. Keep a daily log & write down: * What caused your stress? * How you felt physically and emotionally? * How you reacted? * What you did to…

Not summer, it’s the season of Suicide for Students!!

How many more Students will be killed by parents and teachers? (this article is more focused on the life of students in the Indian subcontinent) Each year the number of students killing themselves is increasing at a very high rate. Some think they wouldn’t meet the expectation of their parents and teachers, some think their classmates and friends will look at them as failures and few think if they can’t get in to the top 10 colleges then they will never live a happy life. The levels of stress/anxiety are increasing in students because of Classes and Exams, Jobs and Money, Career prospects, for being away from home in some countries fulfilling the ambitions/dreams of their family. I was surprised to hear that a girl who scored 96% marks overall (all A+) committed suicide because parents and teachers expected her to be no.1 at national level but she was second….

o my god! STRESS leads to Cancer, Depression, Heart diseases, Panic attacks, Diabetes & Suicides!!

Few days ago my best friend’s cousin was diagnosed with Cancer. I started searching for the causes and found out something shocking… something which is ignored by us and which has been accepted as a part of daily life, can kill us!!! S T R E S S.  Also known as Tension in few countries. Sometime it may seem there’s nothing you can do about your stress level. There will never be more hours in the day, your career/family responsibilities will always be demanding, the bills aren’t going to stop coming, exams will always be around the corner for students… But you have a lot more control than you might think and managing stress is all about taking charge: taking charge of your thoughts, your emotions, your schedule, your environment, and the way you deal with problems. Our ultimate goal is a balanced life, with time for work, relationships,…

What does Mental Health really mean? Do you know how Important it is for You?

(click here to hear Maddy’s radio interview regarding this) The word Mental means “relating to the mind”. In some countries people perceive the word Mental as “Insane”. Recently we organised a “community awareness event” focusing on mental well-being. I thought I must share my knowledge with You for Betterment of your life. Government, Schools, Parents and Media usually focus on physical health whereas I think Mental Health is much more important. How we think and feel has a big impact on our overall health and well-being. The World Health Organisation predicts that mental health will be the biggest health issue in the developed world over the next few years. Teach kids good mental health skills at home by helping them relax and unwind, deal with anxiety and talk about their every day challenges without fear of being judged.
